Background

Founded in 1980 by Janet Baldwin, this annual event is a big social occasion in the Double Reed calendar. It started as a weekend in Upton on Severn with camping called the Oboe Workshop. The 20th Anniversary year saw Double Reeders gather for a week in France!

The purpose is to educate by providing tuition, masterclasses, reed making and playing in a convivial atmosphere. The day is held for double reed players of every standard. Oboes and bassoons are endangered instruments and this is a very social occasion. We are much stronger together and always include great, freshly cooked food and plenty of cake!

To achieve the objectives, a top soloist is present for both oboe and bassoon. There is also first class support from a range of local double reed teachers. Trade stands are in attendance such as Howarth and Crook and Staple for the purchase of a full range of double reed items. Reed makers and music suppliers are present in the traders hall. Andrew Denyer from Abbeywoodwinds is there to repair and check instruments.

All meals and snacks are included in the price and are of a high standard.  Joshua’s Catering cook on site and cater for all dietary requirements.

Whether you are a complete beginner or a pro you are welcome and will be given appropriate music to play with a warm welcome.
